Uralvagonzavod celebrates its 80th anniversary
Today, on October 11, Uralvagonzavod located in Nizhny Tagil, celebrates its 80th anniversary. On this day back in 1936, the first railway products rolled off the production lines of the factory.
On the eve of its 80th anniversary, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, signed the Decree to reward Uralvagonzavod with a letter of commendation for strengthening the defense of the State and developing and creating state-of-the-art models of weapons and military equipment.
Uralvagonzavod is the largest rolling stock manufacturer in the 1520 space and is Russia’s only tank maker. Over the past eight decades, it has manufactured over a million units of rolling stock and over a hundred thousand armored vehicles, which is an absolute world record. On September 9th, 2016, the 10,000th innovative open car type 12-196-02 rolled off the assembly line.
Over the years, the enterprise developed and made the legendary T-34, T-54, T-55, T-72, T-90 tanks and their modifications, engineering machinery, and other products. It now develops Armata-based vehicles. T-14, heavy IFV T-15, and ARV T-16 by Uralvagonzavod have already been dubbed a game changer of the global tank-building industry.
The parent enterprise of the corporation is listed in the Guinness World Records Book as the world’s largest of its kind. Uralvagonzavod heads an integrated structure of the same name which unites 40 companies, research institutes, and design bureaus both in Russia and abroad.
