OJSC “RPC “URALVAGONZAVOD” signs contract with OJSC “Freight One”

OJSC “RPC “URALVAGONZAVOD” and OJSC “Freight One” signed a contract effective till 2014 on February 17, 2010.

Under the contract OJSC “RPC “URALVAGONZAVOD” is to supply 20 000 gondola cars to OJSC “Freight One” till 2014. The supplies are to be evenly spread over two years.

The new contract resulted from protracted negotiation andcounsellingof both companies experts and was preceded by thorough preliminary analysis of Freight One demand for gondola cars over the next few years taking into account such factors as rolling stock renewal and industrial production growth. For URALVAGONZAVOD this contract ensures high capacity utilization over the next few years.

Renewal of freight car fleet is one of Freight One strategic objectives. Over the period of 2008 – 2010 Freight One purchased more than 30 000 units of rolling stock from various producers. The figure includes about 20 000 gondola cars. At present every seventh car of the company is new, purchased in 2008-2009.

Such a large-volume contract between the largest rail transport operator and the largest producer signifies Russia’s high economic growth potential.


OJSC “Freight One”is Russia’s largest rail transport operator. The main founder and owner of Freight One ordinary shares  is OJSC “Russian Railways” (RZD).

Freight One was created in July 2007. Currently Freight One owns more than 200 000 units of rolling stock of various types. The company’s share of all rolling stock in the Russian Federation is 21%. Freight One volume of transportation in 2010 amounted to 302,3mln.tonnes.

OJSC “RPC “URALVAGONZAVOD”is a parent company in an integrated structure of more than 20 industrial enterprises, research institutes and design offices in Russia and Europe. For many years URALVAGONZAVOD has been in the lead of the Russian freight rail transport engineering industry with the market share of more than 45 %. The corporation turnover in 2010 exceeded 100 bln. rubles, its net profit amounted to more than 10 bln. rubles.
