R1 tram presented to Mayor of Moscow

"ExpoCityTrans 2014" 3rd International Public Transport Exhibition, the largest exhibition project of interstate industry organized together with Moscow City Government has started at “VDNKh” in ICEC MosExpo. URALVAGONZAVOD Corporation demonstrated the first Russian innovative tram R1 developed at Uraltransmash facilities together with Atom Experimental Design Bureau. World premiere of the tram was held at Innoprom forum in Yekaterinburg, where it created a furore.

Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow has visited the UVZ exhibition stand designed like a transport terminal of a metropolis. The mayor, together with Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development and Oleg Sienko, CEO of UVZ Corporation, have examined the tram and its technical features. Sergei Sobyanin has wondered when performance trials of R1 can begin in Moscow. According to Uraltransmash representatives, R1 tram will be ready for the trials by the summer of 2015. .

The presentation of the tram of the future became the key event of the first exhibition day, opened for experts and the media. It was symbolic that the Moscow premiere of R1 took place right after the presentation of official logo of 2018 FIFA World Cup. One of top priorities for preparation of this grand event is improvement of transport infrastructure of Russian cities hosting the World Cup.

R1 tram attracted foreign visitors, such as Masaki Ogata, Vice-chairman of the Japanese company “East Japan Railway Company”, who appreciated the Russian newly-designed product.
